Children's Services

From its inception in 1939, Gowrie Victoria has sought to foster the wellbeing of children and families through the provision of integrated and state-of-the-art services.

The Children's Program is the cornerstone of our organisation, providing education and care for children on a part-time and full-time basis, for children from 6 weeks to kindergarten age. There are two centres, one in Carlton North (established in 1939) and one at Docklands (established in 2009). The children are grouped by age across rooms, with qualified early childhood staffing each room. Both services operate an integrated funded kindergarten program for preschool children.

Gowrie Victoria’s approach to early childhood learning and development is reflected in the Early Years Learning Framework's (2009) vision to provide children with a sense of Belonging, recognise and celebrate their Being and support their Becoming. Gowrie Victoria implements a play-based emergent curriculum.

The environments are flexible, stimulating, inviting and purposefully arranged to capture children's interests, ideas and cater to individual needs. The use of natural resources and materials is evident in creating open ended play spaces for children to imagine, create and discover.

Theory into Practice

Gowrie Victoria encourages the early childhood sector to achieve for excellence in the provision of quality programs for children. Observation booths allow children’s service staff, management committees, parents, students and other professionals to observe and discuss our children’s programs.
