It was on the 8th of December 1939, that the first Lady Gowrie Child Care centre was officially opened in Melbourne by the then Governor General's wife Lady Zara Gowrie.
100 invited guests including current and past CEO's, board members, staff and guests from other early childhood organisations, government and local councils gathered to join in the celebrations of 70 years growing and developing education and services for children, parents and Early Childhood Professionals and Teachers. It had been raining (pouring) all day before the outdoor celebration was to commence but luckily the sky cleared about 5 o'clock much to the organising committee's relief and the show went on as planned.
